Introduction to Automation with GoAutomate

What is Automation?

Automation means getting things done automatically instead of manually. This reduces the need for human involvement. It's not just about automating tasks or activities - it's also about organising them in the right order at the right time. Automation ensures that each task happens exactly when it should. This boosts productivity for simple and complex workflows alike. It also supports compliance by providing clear evidence of proper execution, simplifying audits.

What is GoAutomate?

GoAutomate is an automation platform built for Microsoft Teams. It lets users build, manage, and run automations within Teams.

What are GoAutomate Apps?

GoAutomate Apps are standalone installable applications built from GoAutomate features. Each App is designed to meet specific business needs and comes with templates for easy setup. As business requirements change, Apps can be upgraded to access additional features and capabilities.

Why Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams is the leading platform for real-time collaboration, providing a shared space for teamwork. GoAutomate integrates directly with Teams, allowing users to build automations, design forms, and create reports without switching platforms. Unlike other automation tools that act as simple add-ons, GoAutomate lets you handle everything - building automations, designing forms, creating reports, and more - all within Teams.

How Automation Works in GoAutomate

Let's take a look at the main building block of automations in GoAutomate.

Steps

Steps are the core elements of an automation, like the boxes in a flowchart. There are three main types of steps:

  • Trigger steps represent real-world events, such as a form submission or incoming email, that start the automation.
  • Activity steps represent actions or tasks to be performed.
  • Control steps manage the automation's flow by branching, merging, or looping.

Data

Each step requires specific data to operate and often provides data for subsequent steps. Data is transferred between steps and used to make decisions.

Formulas

Formulas, based on Excel syntax, help process and combine data for decision-making and step execution.

Forms

Forms collect and display information when human input is needed. GoAutomate offers built-in, drag-and-drop forms to involve users in automations.

Reporting

GoAutomate works with Microsoft Excel and Power BI. This helps you create detailed reports and dashboards and extract important data for further uses.
